Claude Monet Impressionist Artist
Monet was a French Artist born on 14th
November 1840 in Paris. His father Claude Adolphe Monet was a
grocer and mother Louis Justin Monet was a singer. In May 1842
in a Parish church Claude Monet was baptized, his name changed
to Oscar Monet and after few years in 1845 he moved to Le Harve
in Normandy with his family. He never wanted to join his family
business but always wanted to become an artist against his
father’s wishes.
In the year 1851 Claude Oscar Monet joined secondary school
of arts in Le Harve. He first made charcoal caricatures and
sell them for 10-20 francs, this made him famous in the local
market. He also learns drawing under the training of
Jacques-Francois Ochard . In 1856 one day when he gone to the
beaches of Normandy he met Eugene Boudin , from him
Claude Monet learnt oil painting and outdoor painting . He made
Boudin his mentor and learnt almost all the techniques of being
a good artist.
Claude Monet was the inventor of French impressionist
painting. His painting Impression gives birth to the term
impressionism. Monet painted The Women in Green dress in 1866
and gained recognition. His future wife Camille Donceiux was
the model of the paintings like Women in the Garden and on the
bank of the Siene in 1868. In 1870 while Franco-Prussian war
Monet went to England and followed the style paintings of John
Constable and William Turner. Both of them were great landscape
artists and Claude Monet was highly inspired by them and
learned the use of colors. In spite of his good works he was
not allowed for authorization of his work by Royal Academy
exhibition in 1871. He then left London and went to Netherlands
and made some of the best paintings there nearly about 25
paintings. He made short visit to Amsterdam also. In the
same year he returned to France and lived in a village near
Paris for about 7 years till 1878. He went to Holland also for
a very short period.
One of the most popular painting of Claude
Monet is Impression, sunrise in 1872 . He painted the
beautiful landscape of Le harve in this painting and it
get the chance be hanged in the first exhibition of
impressionist in 1874. In 1879 Monet’s wife Camille died
due to Tuberculosis, she was only thirty-two years old .
Claude painted her on deathbed also. In 1883 Monet rented
a new house in Givenry His house was surrounded by
beautiful landscapes that provided enough scope for his
paintings. He painted many pictures and sold them to make
his fortune. Soon his life changed and he transformed his
house in a big building with beautiful gardens and
landscapes . Monet also painted some series paintings in
them he painted the pictures with different lights and
weather conditions.
Claude Monet was died in December 1926 due to lung cancer .
He was 86 years old at the time of death. After his death his
beautiful house was bequeathed to the French academy of fine
arts by his only heir , his son Michel. That house is the main
attraction for tourists in Givenry. Claude Monet’s house will
always cherish his memories in the hearts of his followers.
