Salvador Dali. 1904 - 1989 One of the greatest painters of the 20th Century
Salvador Dali was a famous Spanish painter of his times. He was born on 11th may 1904 in Catalonia, Spain. His father and mother both gave him a good upbringing. His mother encouraged him for everything but she died very early due to cancer when Salvador Dali was only 16 years old.

His mother encouraged him for everything but she died very early due to cancer when Salvador Dali was only 16 years old. Salvador moved to Madrid in 1922 to study arts in Academy of Arts. His personality was very attractive and he became famous for his style of dressing, hairstyle and for his good knowledge of arts. He was an eccentric kind of person according to him the seniors in the Academy who judge his exams are not having complete knowledge of arts. Due to this reason he left his final exams. Salvador Dali created more then 1500 paintings in his whole life and he also did many theatre designs, book illustrations, prints etc. His name was included in the list of Surrealist Art movement. He moved to Paris for making his career in arts and there he met Pablo Picasso. Salvador Dali was very much impressed by Picasso’s work. In Paris he created some of his famous works like the ‘Great Masturbator’ and ‘ the Persistence of memory’. Dali became famous and a successful painter in USA because of his knowledgeable comments on Arts, his personality and most important for his Surrealist paintings. He work for rich and famous clients and earned a good commission. In 1929 he married with Helen Diakonova or ‘Gala’. Both of them lived in USA for 8 years and then returned to Spain. ‘Gala’ was the real supporter of Salvador Dali. She was also the business manager of her husband. She died in 1982 and her death broke down Dali also. Dali also suffered from heart problems and died in 1989 in his hometown. Throughout his life Salvador Dali enjoyed a rich life and he was very clever in attracting media. He has two museums in which his works are displayed and still his paintings are selling for high price.
