Vincent van Gogh Biography, His Life and Times
Vincent van Gogh was born in 1853 in Netherlands. His father
was a Pastor. His family was very cultured and religious. In
his early years Vincent Gogh was very shy and having lack of
confidence. His emotional nature was one of his weaknesses.
Vincent van Gogh decided to become an artist in the year
1860-80. Before that he use to work as a clerk in a bookstore.
In also worked as a preacher in a district of Belgium but his
overzealousness let him be dismissed from that post. In Belgium
only he studied art. He made some sharply lit paintings like in
1885 ‘The Potato Eaters’.
Vincent Gogh’s brother was the manager of the Goupil’s
Gallery in Paris. Vincent went there and studied Carmon. He
tried to improve his style of painting. He started learning how
to do short brushstrokes. Initially Vincent Gogh uses dark
palette but after coming in touch with Monet, Ganguin he
decided to make his palette little lighter.
Vincent was little nervous kind of person that made him
vulnerable and he deteriorates his health by doing nightlong
discussions and paintings. He went to South of Arles for
establishing an Arts school but none of his friends joined him
except Ganguin. But with Ganguin also Vincent had seen many
disastrous results. After all this failure Vincent Gogh became
insane and started living life with fits of madness. Later he
sent to asylum for treatment.
In 1890 when he became little fine he came back under the
supervision of Dr. Gachet. But within two months he shot
himself and died. Vincent Gogh’s career was very short but his
technique of brushstroke was unique. His brush movement and
line was very perfect. The content and form of Vincent
paintings was very powerful. His paintings show his emotions
and gives a rythematic look. In his paintings he showed
his madness and essence of man and nature. His only one
painting was sold in his whole career but he was a great
painter.
